What SAT Maths prep actually involves
The SAT has been fully digital and adaptive for international students since March 2023 - there's no paper version left to prepare for. The whole test runs 2 hours 14 minutes; Maths is 70 minutes of that, split into two 35-minute modules, 44 questions total. How a student performs on the first module decides whether the second module is harder or easier - which changes what a strong start is actually worth.

Around 30% of questions are set in a real-world context - science, social studies or everyday scenarios - rather than pure abstract maths. All SAT classes here are built around this current digital, adaptive version from the start, not adapted from the retired paper format.
Two details that catch students out
A calculator is allowed for the entire Maths section. That's different from the old paper SAT's split calculator/no-calculator sections - a habit some students bring in from other exams, second-guessing whether they're "allowed" to reach for it.
The adaptive structure raises the stakes on Module 1. A slow, over-cautious start can lock a student out of the harder (and higher-scoring) version of Module 2 before they've even reached it - pacing practice matters as much as content practice.
Who this SAT Maths coaching is for
Mostly two overlapping groups: Dubai students applying to universities in the US, where the SAT is still a standard part of the application, and students at American-curriculum schools here who sit it as a normal part of their own school timeline. Both need the same thing from SAT prep - genuine fluency with the Maths content domains above, not just familiarity with question style.
A third group turns up less often but shouldn't be overlooked: students already strong in another curriculum's maths - IB, A Level or IGCSE - who assume SAT preparation will be easy because the content looks familiar. The maths itself usually is. The exam format, timing pressure and adaptive module structure are what actually need practice, and that's specific to this test, not something another curriculum's exam technique carries over automatically.
SAT Maths score improvement, honestly
Maths is scored 200-800, and specific score gains aren't something any tutor can honestly promise in advance - too much depends on where a student starts, how much time there is before test day, and how consistently a student actually practises between sessions.

Many Dubai students sit the SAT alongside another curriculum, and the overlap is real: the algebra and function work is largely the same ground covered in IGCSE and GCSE Maths, the Advanced Math domain leans on the same skills as A Level Pure Maths and IB Maths, and a student already taking AP Calculus typically finds SAT Maths content comes quickly once exam technique is added on top.
That overlap is exactly why one tutor across both makes sense rather than two separate ones working from different assumptions about what a student already knows - the school curriculum and the SAT preparation reinforce each other instead of competing for the same study time.
Where students actually lose marks
Trial and error instead of understanding
Plugging in answer choices to see what fits can work occasionally, but it's slow, and it falls apart completely on the student-produced response questions with no choices to test. A student who reasons from the concept gets there faster and doesn't run out of module time.
Not enough real practice tests
A student needs to have sat full, timed, adaptive practice tests - not just topic worksheets - to know how the real thing actually feels under module time pressure. That's also what lets a tutor mark performance properly and predict a score with real confidence.
